Editorial policy
How we research a guide, what first-hand means here, and how we keep facts current.
AI-assisted research
We research and draft guides with the help of AI tools. An AI tool is never a source: every fact rests on the source the guide cites. Before a guide is published, a separate check compares each fact with the source the guide cites. A process that did not write the draft makes this check and lists any doubtful points. A human editor at Fartherfield then reads every guide and checks those points by hand before it is published.
Sources
- For entry rules, visas, safety and health, we cite official sources only: government travel advice, embassy and immigration sites, and an operator's own terms page. We never cite a forum for these.
- Every visa or entry rule names the passport it applies to. Rules differ by nationality, so check the rule for your own passport.
- We give no medical advice. For vaccines and health entry rules, a guide links to the official source only.
- Each guide lists its sources at the end.
First-hand or research
A first-hand guide or note means the author was there, and the guide says where the author was. A filled stop and the label “First-hand” mark it. A research guide is built from the cited sources, not from a visit. A ring and the label “Research” mark it.
We never invent a trip, a stay or a review. A hotel or place gets a first-hand claim only if the author was there.
Dates
- As of: the date we checked a fact that can change, such as a fee, a fare or an opening time.
- Recheck by: the date by which we check that fact against its source again. After a recheck, the guide shows the new as-of date. If the recheck date has passed, treat the fact as unconfirmed and check the official source.
- Published and updated: a guide keeps the date it was first published. When we change it, it also shows an updated date. We never backdate a guide.
Corrections
If you find an error, tell us. Name the guide and the fact, and link the official source if you can.
We check the report against the source. If the guide is wrong, we correct it, and the guide shows a new updated date. It keeps its first publish date.
Money and independence
Fartherfield carries no advertising and no affiliate links today. The advertising and affiliates page sets out the rules that will apply if that changes.
